Introduction to Shalimar Cosplay

I have always been interested in "dressing up", and was a dancer for many years. The problem with "dressing up" or "cosplay" as it is now called, is that after a certain age, it is frowned upon. One needs to "grow up" and leave childish things behind. Hogwash! I fell for this line of thinking for many years, and now in my later years, I don't care what other people think; I like to dress up, and I shall!

On this blog, I will post photos of my cosplays, but also articles on cosplay, and various costuming aspects of it. Articles on corsetry, historical costuming. Steampunk, Lolita, etc. My own love is historical costumes, from the late 1600s up until the Titanic era (think Downton Abbey).

Next weekend, I will be attending Tsukino-Con in Victoria, an annual Anime convention. However, it is not limited just to Anime; you will see all kinds of cosplays there. Doctor Who, Homestuck, Overwatch, Frozen, Snow White, and many many others.

I'm sure my mother would be shaking her head at me if she were still alive. She would say, "Susan, you are 70 years old. Don't you think it's time to grow up?" To which my answer would be, "Hell no!" I believe you are as old as you think you are, and age is an artificial construct, wherein we are expected to behave a certain way at a certain age. Bollocks. The same with body image. Why shouldn't a plus size person cosplay? If they enjoy it, that should be the only criteria.

Below are pics of my cosplays for Tsukino-Con. On my dummy, unfortunately, but will post some of me wearing them after the Con.
